Michael Szporluk

Michael has over 20 years’ experience in international development and humanitarian action. Since 2008 he has focused on promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, first as Program Officer at Disability Rights Fund and then as an independent consultant. He is based in Portland Oregon, USA. He has dual citizenship (US and Polish), is fluent in English, and proficient in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian. He has an AB in English from University of Michigan, and a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. He self-identifies as a person with a disability.
He has supported a wide-range of international and domestic clients on issues as diverse as housing, land use, employment, procurement, strategic planning, assessments of relief programs, capacity building for Organizations of Persons with Disabilities, and legislative and policy research. He has consistently championed applying an intersectional lens while looking at more marginalized groups within the disability community. He has been part of several global evaluations of donors and agencies working to promote disability-inclusive development (UNDP, DFID, and Ford Foundation), and has provided technical support to multiple UN country teams in Africa, Asia and the Pacific.
